Abstract
A new substance approval criterion in the regulation 1107/2009 for placing plant protection products on the market is that an active substance, safeneror synergist shall only be approved if, it is not considered to have endocrine disrupting properties that may cause adverse effect in humans, unless the exposure of humans is negligible.By 14 December 2013, the Commission shall present a draft of the measures concerning specific scientific criteria for the determination of endocrine disrupting properties to be adopted. In the meantime the determination of an endocrine disruptor is based on the classification of the susbtance. Since there is no agreed definition of an endocrine disruptor nor of the adversitiy of endocrine activity it is urgent to develop assessment and decision criteria for substances with endocrine disrupting properties.
Different schemes for this will be discussed containing different elements like weight-of-the-evidence, potency, lead effect, margin of exposure, categorization that different organisations have come up with.
